Mount Carmel Community Hospital Opened 3rd September 2015
Minister for Primary and Social Care Kathleen Lynch T.D. officially opened Mount Carmel Community Hospital in Dublin on 3rd of September 2015.
Mount Carmel provides the Dublin area with a public dedicated Community Hospital, greatly enhancing the provision of services for older people.
Mount Carmel Community Hospital supports Dublin’s acute hospitals and community services, providing a range of Short Stay Beds including Step Down/Step-Up Beds, Transitional Care Beds and Rehabilitation Beds. These beds are operated and managed by Mowlam Healthcare on behalf of the HSE.
Pat Shanahan Executive Chairman of Mowlam Healthcare said ‘The HSE and Mowlam Healthcare team have worked extremely well together to open this much needed service in the Dublin area’. He continued ‘Mount Carmel post-acute care ensures patients make a speedy recovery following their hospital stay and return home. I would like to thank Geraldine O Hora (Director of Nursing in Mount Carmel) and her team for their commitment and dedication.’
Mount Carmel is a comfortable and restful environment for the post-acute phase of recovery. Patients have varying needs, depending on their medical condition. Our experienced multidisciplinary care team includes a fully trained team of nurses, doctors, healthcare assistants physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, pharmacists and speech & language therapists, who work together to help patients make a full and speedy recovery.
Medical care is delivered by our Resident Medical Officer and Registrar, supported by a Consultant Geriatrician.
Director of Nursing, Geraldine O Hora said ‘Patients find Mount Carmel a relaxed and calm environment which helps them to recover and return home. We have developed a very good relationship with the Discharge teams in the Dublin hospitals since we opened in April 2015’
Mount Carmel Community Hospital has 37 patients today and plans to increase to 65 Short Stay beds. The Discharge Team and Consultants in the acute hospitals are already benefitting from this intermediate care and support in Mount Carmel for those patients who have completed their acute phase of care in hospital.
