Every Friday and Saturday afternoon our Ballincollig Community Nursing Unit residents love to gather together in the ‘movie theatre’ for special movie screenings – they relish the classic black and whites. One of our staff nurses and our activities co-ordinator surveyed the residents as to their preferred activities, and watching movies came out as a strong favourite – the freedom of choice of all our residents is a right we unreservedly respect at Ballincollig Community Nursing Unit.
The backstory to our movie theater is deserving of a special mention, as it shows what an incredible care team we have here, a team that works tirelessly and together to enrich and enhance the lives of our valued residents. The story begins with a daughter of a resident raising funds through her participating in Cork City Marathon. These appreciated funds were used by Tom Mackey, our maintenance man, to source, purchase and set up the big screen and sound system. Then Dorothy O’Sullivan, our wonderful housekeeping supervisor, dedicated her free time to make the curtains for behind the big screen, so as to create the perfect theatre environment to make screenings all the more special for our residents.
The Ballincollig Nursing Home care team go above and beyond each and every day without thinking for the benefit of everyone who calls Ballincollig their home. Big Screen Movie Weekends is one such example of the team working together The MOWLAM Way – delivering QUALITY OF CARE, with excellence.
