The Orchard Respite Centre

The Orchard Respite Centre provides specialist respite care for people with dementia and cognitive impairment. The centre is run by Mowlam Healthcare in collaboration with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and the Health Services Executive (HSE).

The dementia respite centre is open to people with dementia anywhere in Ireland. We offer specialist care for up to 11 residents at a time, on a seven day basis and for a specified period of time, usually one to two weeks.

This specialist residential dementia respite centre offers weekly stays for persons with dementia in a safe, friendly environment with stimulating activities. This provides a short break from caring for the caregiver and also for the person with dementia. The centre has a team of registered nurses and dedicated care assistants and ancillary staff that provide help and support to a high standard.

Residents’ needs are central to everything we do. Our focus is firmly on the individual and on providing a place to live with dignity, comfort and grace.

We are very proud of our homely and welcoming atmosphere at The Orchard Dementia Respite Centre and would be delighted to show you around so that you can experience it for yourself.

Lifestyle & Activities

We are dedicated to involving residents with memory loss in daily activities that help them feel valued and provide them with a sense of purpose.

Daily activities are specifically identified to nurture the spirit of residents by preserving life skills which are familiar tasks that residents enjoyed doing in the past that still bring them a sense of purpose in the present.

Our Memory Care team design personalised programmes with multi-sensory experiences, including exercise, gardening, intergenerational activities, pet therapy, depending on what benefits each individual the most.

Activities are organised on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, where residents have similar interests.
