Mowlam Healthcare’s Park Nursing Home Nursing Home held a day of celebrations to mark its 10th birthday. Three 'young at heart' residents enjoyed a special and laugh-out-loud evening outing at the Odeon Cinema in Castletroy Limerick. Residents Antoinette Kelly, Nuala O'Brien, and Claire McMahon went to see Bridget Jones's Baby, in the company of carer Siobhan McArthur, and clinical nurse manager Mary O'Connell. The Odeon very generously gave us complimentary tickets and the team there couldn't have been more welcoming - they were wonderful to us. Antoinette, Nuala and Claire loved being made feel special, and enjoyed wine and coffee before the film.
Our Activities Co-Ordinators, Noreen Ryan and Tracey Chapman, are dedicated to organising interesting, stimulating and relevant social activities for our residents. The weekly programme is resident-led and everyone is encouraged to participate. One of the most popular activities is the Word Wheel on Thursdays - and there's no doubting who the Queen of the Wheel is – it is of course beloved resident Bridget Brazil, photographed below. As well as being good fun word games can be highly successful for our residents on a cognitive level.
Caherass staff, from nursing and carers to kitchen and housekeeping, have a very special relationship with all the residents they care for, and with their families. Sinead O'Donoghue, highly valued Clinical Nurse Manager at Caherass Nursing Home, pursued the inclusion of Caherass Nursing Home in the Irish Hospice Foundation Journey of Change Programme, with the overall goal of strengthening that relationship, improving end of life care for residents in the home, and supporting staff in developing their competencies in end of life care.
At Adare and District Nursing Home Memory Care Centre one activity that is best loved by all residents is incubating eggs, and watching them hatch into baby chicks. One of our residents, Kathleen, loves the job of each day ticking another day off the incubator calendar, as we all wait patiently for 28 days for the first signs that the eggs are beginning to crack! The excitement and buzz in the home, between residents, staff and families, when hatching is underway, is fantastic - as we all take turns in holding and cuddling the precious fluffy chicks.
Residents at The Park Nursing Home Limerick, stayed up well past bedtime lastnight to enjoy wonderful music by Dr Ray O'Connor and his traditional Irish band.... some families and grandchildren of our residents stayed to enjoy the music too. Residents are still raving about it this morning. Wonderful Night!
Kathleen Wilkinson had been Director of Nursing at Roseville House, a 40-bed nursing home in Ballysimon, Limerick, for 12 years, having worked in the home as a nurse for 9 years previous. Kathleen's colleagues, past and present, marked her departure with a party when she was presented with flowers and gifts.
Lynda Roche, our forever smiling health care assistant in The Park Nursing Home, Limerick, has just received her achievement award from Clinical Nurse Manager, Mary O'Connell, in acknowledgement of her attention to care. Mowlam Healthcare Achievement Awards are given after feedback from residents. Well done Lynda, from all at the Park Nursing Home and Mowlam Healthcare.
We are very blessed in The Park Nursing Home Limerick to have a lovely, lovely man, called Tony, visit with our residents nearly every thursday to play music and sing residents’ favourites, and accompany the residents while they sing along – the musical interludes foster a warm sense of fun and togetherness for our residents. It’s such a lovely afternoon. Tony's infectious enthusiasm brings smiles to the residents' faces and before long their and our feet are tapping away.
Resident Margaret Moloney with Nurse Siobhan Flynn enjoying some ice cream from Shannon Ices Saturday, 17th September will definitely be a day to remember in the Park Nursing Home. Limerick Vintage Car Club arrived during what turned out to be a beautiful afternoon to a joyous welcome by residents, families members and the [...]
