Guide to Selecting a Home
We understand that choosing a nursing home can be a very difficult and stressful time for you and your loved ones. And once you’ve made the difficult decision about nursing home placement for an elderly parent or relative you will have questions like:
Where will I find a suitable nursing home?
How do I discuss the move with my relative to alleviate their distress?
How much will the nursing home care cost?
It is important to do some research, and our highly trained and empathetic nursing home managers are here to help and advise you, and ensure peace of mind follows for you and your family. Please contact the manager in the Mowlam Nursing Home nearest to you to arrange a visit at a time that suits you. Our managers will be able to provide practical advice and information to help you make your decision.
Three steps to selecting the correct home
1. Research
Check what homes are in your area, speak to your GP or contact the HSE for advice and recommendations.
The Quality of Care that your relative will experience is the single most important factor when looking at nursing homes – ensuring that your relative is treated with dignity, respect and compassion is what we all want for our loved ones.
Quality of Life for your elderly relative in nursing home care is also a key consideration. We believe that enabling our residents to achieve their fullest possible potential is a key aspect of the quality of care we provide.
2. Cost
Its important to understand the cost and how this will be funded by family members, savings or government schemes.

3. Visit the Homes
It’s important to visit your short list of homes to compare quality, care, team and facilities.
We would encourage you to visit as many nursing homes as possible in your area before you choose one. Your local HSE office will be able to provide you with a full list of HSE approved nursing homes in your area.
